Olive Waithera is a young woman on a mission to establish a successful events management business.

A resident of Ngong town, Olive who recently graduated from Strathmore university with a degree in Hospitality Management, is an example of many ambitious and driven youth who are choosing to establish their own businesses instead of waiting to be employed.

Together with her friend Nelly Wakio and several other partners, they founded Sterling Weddings and Events in 2017 after striking a bond during an internship in an events company.

Unfortunately, as it happens with many startup businesses, most of the other partners left leaving Olive and Nelly. Responding to our reporters question how they felt when the partners left, Olive said “it was not easy to begin with but we kept going because we had a vision”.

Olive further said “Apart from complementing each other in various ways, Nelly has a degree in Social Sciences and Project Management from Moi University, qualifications which add value to our business”.
Advice to youth willing to start a business
“Self doubt, what kind of business to start, raising capital are some of the challenges youth face. But with passion, hard work, determination and patience you can realize your vision. Every failure is an opportunity to learn”. Olive said.

Sterling Weddings and Events organizes all kinds of events such as corporate, weddings, graduations, parties and family events. They offer decor, entertainment and planning services.

Olive concluded by saying “we believe in giving our clients the best possible services by ensuring, that the event is delivered to exceed the expectations, as well as give them value for their money”.
