Kajiado Senator Hon. Phillip Mpaayei Hosts People Living with Disability

Kajiado Senator Hon. Phillip Mpaayei on the 4th april 2018 hosted people living with disability (PWDs) from various parts of Kajiado County for lunch at Kokos Restaurant along Kiserian – Isinya Road.  The senator was joined by Kajiado County Women Rep. Hon. Janet Teiyaa, Nominated Mca’s Hon. Lenana Ole Pulei and Hon. Josephine Sharrar. National Council Of People Living With Disability (NCPWD) was represented by Mr. Alex Munyere and Mr. Isaac Manyonge.

Hon. Mpaayei promised to join hands with Hon. Teiyaa to ensure PWDs from Kajiado County gets an audience with President Uhuru Kenyatta.  Mr manyonge (NCPWD) said there is a lack of Youth polytechnics facilitated to host PWDs. He further said there is lack of information for those living with disability.  There were several people who raised concerns over the forgotten parents who have disabled children.

Other issues which were raised included:

  • Difficulties PWDs face in acquiring Disability ID card.
  • High cost of maintaining NHIF payments due to lack of employment opportunities for PWDs.

Hon. Teiyaa said there are funds available for parents of children with disability applied through her office on condition one has a disability ID card.

Hon. Lenana requested the senator to negotiate with Kajiado County Governor Hon.joseph Ole Lenku for the share of available opportunities in employment and tenders on behalf of people living with disability within Kajiado. He promised to source for wheelchairs for those who requires them.  Hon. Lenana concluded by promising to personally request The Governor Hon. Joseph Ole Lenku to subsidize the cost of buying NHIF insurance for PWDS.
